On the morning of October 14, 2019, the CHD-UCD Dual-Degree Programme on Road Bridge and River-crossing Engineering was held at the Sino-Foreign Cooperative School Base on the fifth floor of Hongyuan, Weishui Campus. Professor Paul Fanning, Dean of the International College of Dublin University, Ireland, and Professor Zhao Xiangmo, Vice President of Chang'an University, Associate Professor Shane Donohue, Director of the UCD-CHD Cooperative Education Program at the University of Dublin, Assistant Professor Daniel McCrum at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Dublin, the principals of the Academic Affairs Office, the International Cooperation Office, the School of Highway, and representatives of the teachers of the Sino-foreign cooperative education program attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Hainian, Vice Dean of the School of Highway.

Vice President Zhao Xiangmo made a speech. He pointed out that, the establishment of CHD-UCD Dual-Degree Programme is based on the high-speed development environment of China's highway transportation infrastructure construction, serving the primary strategic needs of the country such as the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "transportation power" strategy. Combining the advantages of Chang'an University 's road and bridge and crossing river engineering disciplines and the advanced concept of running higher education at the University of Dublin, Ireland. The aim is to train students into high-end technical and management talents in the field of transportation engineering with a broad international perspective, sophisticated engineering problem-solving capabilities, and global competence. Since the first enrollment in 2018, the program has attracted significant attention from all walks of life, and the university has also given strong support. While continuously optimizing teaching management, it carried out various activities such as Irish Cultural Week, immersion summer camp, summer study abroad, to enhance students' English level and strengthen cultural exchange. He hoped that the students would cherish the spirit of the university motto, cherish high ambitions, devote great innovation, pursue a vast realm, and strive to grow into an industry leader and social pillar.

Dean Paul Fanning warmly welcomed the arrival of the 2019 freshman. The dual-degree program had been in operation for one year and had carried out many exchanges and visits to promote the development of the cooperative education project steadily. Dean Paul Fanning introduced the environment and teaching resources of Dublin University, and encouraged all students to come to Dublin for short-term visits and exchanges. After the speech, Dean Paul Fanning presided over the scarf award ceremony, officially welcoming 2019 newcomers to become members of the University of Dublin.

Wang Jingqi, speaking on behalf of the 2019 freshmen, fully expressed the joy of becoming a member of the dual-degree program of Chang'an University and Dublin University. He said that 2019 freshmen would work hard, cherish the university life, study hard, and actively participate in various activities to lay a solid foundation for future growth.

In the afternoon, Associate Professor Shane Donohue, Director of the Cooperative Education Project of University of Dublin and Assistant Professor Daniel McCrum of the School of Civil Engineering, University of Dublin, organized an incredible bridge model building competition for newcomers, which mobilized students' professional learning interest and teamwork ability.

CHD-UCD Dual-Degree Programme on Road Bridge and River-crossing Engineering adopts the "4 + 0" training model. After enrolling students, students register at the same time in both schools and accept bilingual and full English courses implemented by the teachers of the two schools. Graduates who meet the requirements will be awarded Changan University Bachelor's Degree Certificate and Dublin University Ireland Bachelor of Engineering Degree Certificate.
